Threaded Insert Nominal Length (Metric Threads)
Insert nominal length per metric designation M2 through M45 — the insert length each engagement from 0.5d to 3d calls for, tabulated on the same drill and tap data grid as the metric drilling-depth and fitted-height charts.
Specifications
This is the ordering-side chart of the metric insert set: for each designation M2 through M45, the nominal insert length that each engagement level (0.5d, 0.75d, 1d, 1.5d, 2d, 2.5d, 3d) calls for, on the same shared machining grid as its two siblings. The values track d = nominal thread diameter directly — M6 at 1d reads 6.0, at 2d reads 12.0 — with the source rounding 0.75d to one decimal (M27 at 0.75d prints 20.3), which we carry as printed and note rather than re-round. In practice this chart is where an RFQ line comes from: the joint decision fixes engagement, the drilling-depth chart tells the shop how deep to cut, and this chart tells you what length of insert to order. Read it against the family's insert pages — wire inserts are supplied in these length classes (1d, 1.5d, 2d, and so on), and the quoted part follows the tabulated class, not an interpolated value. The three verbatim print defects flagged across the shared grid appear here identically. Parent-material engagement selection and insert material stay RFQ lines.
| Coverage | 57 metric thread rows, M2 through M45 — same designation ladder as the other two metric insert charts, shared machining grid (cross-checked, 0 diffs) |
|---|---|
| Chart column | Insert nominal length at 0.5d / 0.75d / 1d / 1.5d / 2d / 2.5d / 3d engagement (d = nominal thread diameter), mm as printed; 0.75d rounded to one decimal by the source (e.g. M27 → 20.3) |
| Ordering discipline | Inserts are supplied in discrete length classes — order the tabulated class your engagement calls for, not an interpolated length |
| Verbatim defects (flagged, not normalized) | M36x1.5 2d prints 49.3; M36 0.75d prints 13.8; M42 2.5d prints 9935 — read against row neighbours |
| Not tabulated | UNC/UNF nominal-length companions on the collected source; insert material/coating — per RFQ |

Materials
- Length is geometry; material follows the application — carbon steel, stainless A2/A4 and exotic alloys per the family pages. Quote the designation, engagement (or required installed height) and material on the RFQ and the length class comes straight off this chart
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (Threaded Insert Nominal Length (Metric Threads)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What insert length do I order for a 1.5d engagement on M10?
Read the M10 row — the note matters here: M10 appears in three pitch variants (M10x1, M10x1.25, M10 coarse), and the nominal length is engagement-driven (d-based), so the 1.5d column reads the same class across the variants, but the drilling depth under that insert differs by pitch — take the depth from the drilling-depth chart at the exact pitch row. The length you order is the 1.5d class: 15.0 mm nominal as the chart prints. Say it on the RFQ as designation + pitch + length class (M10x1.5 callout, 1.5d engagement, 15 mm class insert), and the supply side matches insert series and length without a second round of questions.
The chart's nominal length equals d times the engagement exactly — is that a formula I can extrapolate?
It is a definition, not a coincidence: nominal length class is stated in diameters, so 2d of M6 is 12 by construction, and yes, the pattern holds across the ladder (the only deviations are the source's one-decimal rounding of 0.75d and the three flagged print defects). But extrapolation is the wrong tool for the two numbers around the length: drilling depth includes tap approach that does not scale simply with d (compare M8x1 against M8 coarse at 3d), and fitted height depends on the installed coil geometry of the specific insert series. So use the definition to sanity-check an order line, and use the charts for everything the shop touches. If an engagement need falls outside the 0.5d to 3d ladder entirely, that is an engineering conversation per RFQ, not an extrapolated order.
