Specifications

Tangless wire thread inserts use the same helical principle as conventional wire inserts but eliminate the installation tang. A traditional tang-type insert uses a small tang to drive the insert into place, and that tang must be broken off after installation; the tangless design removes that extra step entirely. The collected sources point them at precision assemblies, enclosed mechanisms, electronics-related equipment and clean mechanical systems where loose metal fragments should be avoided, and note they are especially helpful in blind holes, compact housings and maintenance-sensitive assemblies — where a broken-off tang left in the component is exactly the failure mode to design out.

Construction Same basic helical principle as conventional wire inserts; installation tang eliminated
Installation difference Conventional inserts are driven by a tang that must be broken off and removed after installation; the tangless design eliminates the removal operation
Contamination control Suitable where the finished assembly must remain free from loose metal fragments — the collected sources name precision assemblies, enclosed mechanisms, electronics-related equipment and clean mechanical systems
Preferred hole geometry Blind holes and compact housings, where a broken-off tang cannot be retrieved
Selection caveat Suitability still depends on hole geometry, installation tooling and required thread performance (collected guide)
MOQ / lead time Not owner-confirmed for this family — confirmed at quotation

Materials

  • Stainless steel
  • Carbon steel
  • Brass (material per collected guide; confirm required insert material on the RFQ)

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (Tangless Wire Thread Inserts) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Why pay the premium for tangless inserts?

For the tang-breakoff step and its failure mode: in blind holes and enclosed mechanisms, a broken-off tang can stay in the assembly as a loose metal fragment — exactly what the collected sources say tangless designs avoid in precision, electronics and clean mechanical systems. Where the tang can exit freely and cost dominates, tang-type inserts remain the conventional choice.

Do tangless inserts install like regular wire inserts?

The helical principle and STI receiving thread are the same; only the drive-and-breakoff step changes, so hole preparation follows the same STI rules as the wire thread insert page. Confirm tooling compatibility for the tangless drive on the RFQ.

What should an RFQ for tangless inserts state?

State the insert type (tangless wire), nominal thread size and pitch, insert material, parent material, and why tangless is required (blind hole, enclosed mechanism, contamination control) so the installation tooling is quoted to match. Commercial terms are confirmed at quotation.
