Concrete Screw Anchors (Tapcon-Type)
Self-tapping concrete screw anchors in M6–M16 metric and 3/16″–5/8″ inch sizes — drive directly into a drilled hole, load immediately, no torque tool or cure window. Embedment 45–85 mm, cracked-concrete tension 9–16 kN at deep embedment; the fastest of the three post-installed anchor families.

Specifications
A concrete screw anchor is a hardened, self-tapping screw that cuts its own thread into a predrilled concrete hole: no sleeve, no adhesive, no torque-controlled expansion. That is why it installs fastest of the three post-installed families — drive it in and it carries load immediately, which is why it dominates repetitive light-duty work such as formwork ties, hanger brackets, conduit and cladding rails. The trade-offs are structural and permanent: the connection is sized by the thread it cuts into the concrete, so pull-out — not steel strength — governs across the practical embedment range, and the anchor is single-use; once set, turning it again is not part of the assessment. Qualification runs under EAD 330232 with cracked-concrete approval granted per size, not to the family, so the ETA of the specific product and size is the design document.
| Type | Self-tapping concrete screw anchor (Tapcon-type) — driven into a predrilled hole, single-use |
|---|---|
| Diameters (metric) | M6–M16, on an 8–16 mm drill hole (shaft 6–14 mm) |
| Diameters (inch) | ANSI 3/16″–5/8″; each size uses its own smaller bit — a 1/4″ screw takes a 3/16″ bit, not an 8 mm one |
| Effective embedment (h_ef) | 45–85 mm; EAD 330232 sets the concrete-screw floor at (h_nom − h_s) ≥ 40 mm — the 30 mm relaxation allowed for other mechanical anchors does not apply |
| Characteristic tension (cracked) | 9–16 kN in cracked C20/25 at h_ef 64–85 mm, against ~95 kN steel tension at the largest size — pull-out governs by a factor of about six |
| Cracked approval | Per product and per size, not family-wide; de-installation and re-installation may damage the screw — products assessed as single-use under EAD 330232, retightenable ones under EAD 330011 |
| Qualification & design basis | EAD 330232-01-0601 (reference ETA-11/0336, sizes Ø8/6–Ø16/14); design to ACI 318-25 Ch. 17 or EN 1992-4:2018 |
| Installation | Rotary-hammer drilling only, with the bit diameter the approval calls for; hole cleaning is a tested variable; loadable immediately — but never turned again after setting |
| Seismic | Qualified size by size: reference ETA — Ø10 holds C1 only, Ø12 and Ø16 hold C1 and C2, the smallest size carries no seismic performance; check the report |
| Fire | Carried in the ETA: 1.0–4.0 kN at 30 min across the reference size range, values published to 120 min |
| Geometry limits | Edge distance per c_cr,N (1.5 × effective embedment to a free edge); splitting c_cr,sp 80–130 mm across the reference size range against h_ef 48–85 mm |
| Relative installed cost | Lowest of the three anchor families — drive-in installation, no washer pass, no cure window |
| MOQ / lead time | 500–1,000 pieces; standard production 15–30 days |

Materials
- Hardened carbon steel (zinc-plated)
- Stainless A4 finish (per corrosivity category, e.g. ISO 12944 C-class requirements)
- Coating systems per site specification (zinc flake where called out)
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (Concrete Screw Anchors (Tapcon-Type)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 500–1,000 pieces. Standard production run 15–30 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the concrete screw anchor rated so far below its steel strength?
Because the thread, not the screw, is the weak link. At the largest size the steel carries about 95 kN in tension, but the thread cut into cracked C20/25 pulls out at 9–16 kN in the practical embedment window — pull-out governs by roughly a factor of six. This is not a defect; it is the family design. Size concrete screw anchors for the pull-out value at your embedment and concrete class, and step up to a mechanical or bonded anchor when the design load exceeds it.
Can I back a concrete screw anchor out and reuse the hole?
No — treat the hole as single-use. The approval assessment (EAD 330232) evaluates concrete screws driven once; further turning after installation is outside the tested condition and may damage the screw or the cut thread. Products that must be loosened and retightened are assessed under a separate EAD 330011 route. If the fixture may come off again, use a mechanical anchor with a torque setting, or a studded bonded anchor.
What does size-by-size cracked approval mean for my specification?
It means the family logo is not an approval. In the reference ETA the Ø10 size holds seismic category C1 only, Ø12 and Ø16 hold C1 and C2, and the smallest size carries no seismic performance at all — cracked-concrete approval is likewise granted per product and per size. When the detail calls for cracked concrete, seismic, or fire performance, read those values from the ETA or ICC-ES report of the exact product and size being supplied, not from family-level marketing.
What is the MOQ and lead time for these anchors?
The minimum order quantity is 500–1,000 pieces. Standard production runs 15–30 days. Bent or custom geometries are quoted against the drawing.
What should an RFQ for these anchors state?
State the anchor family and designation, diameter, embedment or length, base-material condition (cracked or uncracked concrete, moisture), coating, and quantity per size — plus destination country and any required documents such as a mill test certificate. If your detail carries an ETA or ICC-ES report number, quote it so the anchor matches the approval.
