DIN 6799 Retaining Rings for Shafts (E-Clips)

E-shaped retaining rings for shafts per DIN 6799 — the small-shaft snap ring that snaps into a shallow groove with pliers, no circlip pliers needed. The collected table covers shaft diameters 0.8 mm through 30 mm with ring thickness, groove fit n and outside diameter dc per size.

Specifications

The DIN 6799 E-clip is the fastest retaining ring to fit on a small shaft: pushed on axially with pliers, its three prongs spring into a shallow groove and the ring is locked — no circlip pliers, no threaded shoulder. It is the standard axial locating device on small shafts: rollers and bearings, pins, levers, electric motor armatures, actuators. The collected specification table runs shaft diameters 0.8 mm to 30 mm and tabulates the ring section h, the groove fit n and the maximum outside diameter dc per size — the n ladder is the machinist-facing figure, since the groove diameter must land inside its tolerance band for the prongs to grip. Compared with the grooved-shaft DIN 471 ring, the E-clip takes a shallower groove and fits the smallest diameters in the retaining-ring family — the collected series starts at 0.8 mm.

Standard DIN 6799 — retaining rings for shafts, E-type, axial assembly
Shaft size range 0.8 mm through 30 mm nominal shaft diameter (collected table)
Ring section h 0.2 mm (d 0.8) to 2.5 mm (d 30), with max/min tolerances per size
Groove fit n Per-size nominal with max/min band (e.g. d 8 → n 6.52, 6.578/6.462; d 24 → n 21.88, 21.964/21.796) — the groove diameter must land inside the band for the prongs to grip
Outside diameter dc Max 2.25 mm (d 0.8) to 52.6 mm (d 30) per the collected table
Assembly Axial push-on with pliers; shallower groove than DIN 471 — suited to small shafts and low axial loads
MOQ / lead time Not owner-confirmed for this family — confirmed at quotation

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 6799 Retaining Rings for Shafts (E-Clips)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

E-clip (DIN 6799) or external circlip (DIN 471)?

Both locate a component axially on a shaft, but they are different tools. The DIN 6799 E-clip pushes on axially with plain pliers, sits in a shallow groove, and covers the smallest shafts — the collected series starts at 0.8 mm, where circlip pliers would be impossible. The DIN 471 external ring grips with a deeper, more substantial section and carries higher axial loads on larger shafts. So: small shafts, quick assembly, moderate loads — the E-clip; larger diameters and heavier axial thrust — the DIN 471. The groove in either case must land inside the standard’s tolerance band for the ring to grip.

What should an RFQ for DIN 6799 E-clips state?

State the shaft nominal diameter (which selects the ring size), the material and finish required for the environment, the groove diameter your drawing machines (it must fall inside the standard’s n max/min band for that size), the axial load the ring must carry, and quantity per size. Commercial terms are confirmed at quotation.
