Grooved Blind Rivets

Grooved blind rivets — a fully grooved body whose reversed grooves hook the interior surfaces of the assembly on setting. The rivet for closed-end assemblies set into pocket holes, where no through-hole exists and the grip comes from the grooves, not the bulge.

Specifications

A grooved blind rivet solves a joint the other blind rivets cannot: a closed section that has no back wall to bulge against. The body is fully grooved along its length, and on setting the reversed grooves hook the interior surfaces of the assembled parts — the clamp is mechanical interlock along the shank, not an expanded bulge at the back. The collected manufacturer line names it the ideal rivet for closed-end assembly with pocket holes, and carries an explicit caveat worth repeating in any joint review: grip range and tensile strength vary according to the assembled materials, because the grooves hook whatever they bite into — hard parents grip deeper than soft ones. The collected aluminium-body / zinc-plated-steel-mandrel series reads differently from every other rivet table for this reason: each row lists the minimum drilling depth in material-1 and the maximum thickness of material-2 instead of a grip range, since the rivet seats in a blind pocket drilled into the first member. That also makes the drilling depth a selection input, not just the sheet stack — plan the pocket before the rivet. Typical set is storage racks and trunk assemblies, exactly the closed-profile joints the type exists for.

Type Grooved blind rivet — fully grooved body; reversed grooves hook the interior surfaces of the assembly on setting
Joint type Closed-end assemblies with pocket holes — no through-hole or back wall required; clamp is groove interlock, not blind-side bulge
Grip caveat (manufacturer line) Grip range and tensile strength vary according to the assembled materials — the grooves bite harder in harder parents
Selection inputs Minimum drilling depth in material-1 and maximum material-2 thickness per size — the pocket depth is a design input
Representative series data (4.0 mm, aluminium body / zinc-plated steel mandrel) dk 8.0, drill 4.2, tensile 1800 N, shear 1200 N; drilling-depth/material-2 by length — L 8 → 11/2, L 10 → 13/4, L 12 → 15/6, L 16 → 19/10 mm
Representative series data (4.8 mm, same pairing) dk 9.5, drill 5.0, tensile 2800 N, shear 1900 N; drilling-depth/material-2 — L 10 → 14/3, L 12 → 16/5, L 14 → 18/7, L 16 → 20/9, L 18 → 22/11, L 20 → 24/13, L 25 → 29/18, L 30 → 34/23 mm
Series scope Ø 3.2 mm and other lengths beyond the tabulated rows

Materials

  • Aluminium body / zinc-plated steel mandrel

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (Grooved Blind Rivets) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000–50,000 pieces depending on size. Standard production run 10–20 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

How is a grooved rivet different from a standard blind rivet in a closed profile?

A standard blind rivet needs something to push against: its blind side forms by bulging against the far face, and in a hollow profile there is no far face — the rivet sets loose or pulls through. The grooved rivet never bulges: its grooves hook the walls of a pocket drilled into the first member, so the joint clamps even with open space behind. The engineering trade is that the hook depends on the parent material — the manufacturer line is explicit that grip and tensile vary with the assembled materials — and the joint needs a pocket drilled to the listed minimum depth. Design the pocket, then pick the rivet length.

What is the MOQ and lead time for these rivets?

Minimum order quantity is 10,000–50,000 pieces depending on size and material. Standard production lead time is 10–20 days. Common blind rivet sizes are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.

What should an RFQ for these rivets state?

State the rivet subtype (open-end, closed-end, structural blind rivet or rivet nut), body diameter, grip range or total material thickness, head style (dome, countersunk or large flange), body and mandrel materials (for example aluminum body with steel mandrel, or all-stainless), finish, required certificates such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1, and quantity per size — plus destination country.
