ANSI B18.8.2 Slotted Spring Pins (Imperial)
Imperial slotted spring pins per ANSI B18.8.2 — spring pins from 1/16 to 3/4 inch nominal in the collected table with diameter bands, slot width c, wall h, the manufacturer-recommended hole size per pin, and minimum double-shear loads published separately for spring steel, stainless (SAE 30302/30304) and beryllium copper.

Specifications
The imperial counterpart of the metric slotted spring pin (DIN 1481 / ISO 8752): a hollow spring pin with a longitudinal slot that compresses to enter a plain drilled hole and springs out against the bore to lock. ANSI B18.8.2 sizes it by fractional nominal diameter — 1/16 through 3/4 inch in the collected table — and, unlike the metric tables in this batch, it publishes three separate minimum-double-shear columns by pin material: spring steel (SAE 1070-1095 and SAE 51420), stainless (SAE 30302/30304) and beryllium copper, so the material choice is part of the load specification rather than a footnote. The table also prints the recommended hole size band per pin (for example 0.129/0.125 inch for nominal 1/8) — with a slotted pin the hole band is doing real work, since the pin's grip depends on how far the slot closes, and the collected table names the band rather than leaving it to the shop. For the coiled (360-degree wall) construction in metric, see the ISO 8750 page; the slotted construction here is the two-prong slot form.

Materials
- Load columns name three collected material families: spring steel (SAE 1070-1095, SAE 51420), stainless (SAE 30302/30304) and beryllium copper; finish specified per RFQ
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (ANSI B18.8.2 Slotted Spring Pins (Imperial)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Which material column should my load check use?
The one that matches the pin you actually buy — this is the one table in the pins family where material changes the published number by roughly a factor of two (spring steel 430 lb minimum double shear at 1/16 vs 250 lb stainless vs 270 lb beryllium copper). Spring steel carries the most shear; stainless trades load for corrosion resistance; beryllium copper is the non-magnetic/conductive specialty pick. The collected table publishes all three per size, so the check is mechanical once the material is fixed — the failure mode to avoid is checking against spring-steel numbers and then quoting stainless because the environment demanded it.
Why does the hole size matter more for a slotted pin than a solid dowel?
A solid dowel's fit is set by tolerance grinding; a slotted spring pin's fit is set by how much the slot closes when you drive the pin in. An oversize hole lets the pin relax open and lose grip; an undersize hole over-closes the slot and can permanently set the spring. That is why the collected ANSI table prints a recommended hole band for every pin — 0.256/0.250 inch for nominal 1/4, for instance — instead of assuming a drill size. Drill to the band, not to the pin's free-state diameter (which is deliberately oversize, up to 0.784 inch for nominal 3/4), and replace, don't re-drive, pins that have been removed: a slot that has already been cycled may not re-grip at the printed loads.
What should an RFQ for this pin type state?
State the pin type, the standard designation, the nominal size and length, material if the drawing names one, and quantity per size — plus destination country. Commercial terms are confirmed at quotation.
