DIN 1470 Grooved Pins (Full-Length Parallel Grooved, with Pilot)
Grooved pins per DIN 1470 — solid pins with three parallel press-in grooves running the full length, with pilot end, nominal diameters 1.5 to 25 mm in the collected table including groove diameter d2 and minimum double-shear loads 1.6 to 444 kN.

Specifications
A grooved pin looks like a plain parallel pin but carries three longitudinal grooves pressed into its surface; the metal displaced from the grooves makes the pin effectively larger than its nominal diameter, so driving it into a plain drilled hole locks it by interference — no thread, no Adhesive, no end fitting. The grooves run the full length of the pin on the DIN 1470 type, and the pin carries a pilot end for ease of entry. Where the joint sees shear, the grooved pin behaves like a solid dowel: the collected table lists a minimum double-shear load per diameter, 1.6 kN at 1.5 mm rising to 444 kN at 25 mm. Compared with a slotted spring pin (DIN 1481), a grooved pin is solid — stiffer in shear, but it needs accurate hole sizing and does not tolerate oversized holes the way a spring pin does.

| Nominal diameter series (d) | 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 mm |
| Pin diameter d (max/min by size) | max = nominal (1.5–25 mm); min 1.475–24.87 mm across the series — see per-size table |
| Groove diameter d2 (min/max by size) | min 1.6–25.4 mm, max 1.65–25.6 mm across the series — d2 is the groove-root diameter the displaced metal is pressed from |
| Chamfer c (min/max by size) | min 1–6 mm, max 2–7 mm across the series |
| Pilot length a (≈ by size) | 0.2 to 3 mm rising with diameter — see per-size table |
| Minimum double shear (by size) | 1.6, 2.84, 4.4, 6.4, 11.3, 17.6, 25.4, 45.2, 70.4, 101.8, 181, 283, 444 kN — series range 1.6–444 kN (double shear = two shear planes, e.g. a clevis joint) |
| Installation | Drive into a plain drilled hole — the grooves create interference with the bore wall; hole accuracy matters more than with spring pins |

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 1470 Grooved Pins (Full-Length Parallel Grooved, with Pilot)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Grooved pin or slotted spring pin — when do I pick which?
Both press into plain drilled holes without threads or adapters, but they hold differently. A grooved pin (DIN 1470) is solid with pressed grooves: it locks by interference and carries shear as a solid section — the collected table shows 25.4 kN minimum double shear at 6 mm. A slotted spring pin (DIN 1481 / ISO 8752) is hollow; it compresses to enter and springs out against the bore, tolerating wider hole tolerance and vibration better but carrying less shear for the same nominal size. Pick the grooved pin when the hole can be drilled accurately and shear load dominates; pick the spring pin when hole tolerance, thin walls or vibration are the constraint. If the drawing names a standard, quote against that.
What does the d2 groove diameter tell me for DIN 1470?
d2 is the diameter at the groove roots — smaller than the nominal pin diameter because the crests carry metal displaced into the grooves. It matters in two ways: it is the interference budget (nominal d minus d2 is the metal squeezed against your bore per side of the groove pattern), and it is the machining reference if you ever have to turn a grooved pin back out of a scrap setup. The collected table gives d2 min/max per diameter — 6.25/6.35 mm at nominal 6 mm, for example. Do not confuse it with the recommended bore: the hole is drilled to suit the nominal diameter, not d2.
What should an RFQ for this pin type state?
State the pin type, the standard designation (DIN 94 / ISO 1234 or DIN 1470), the nominal size and length, material if the drawing names one, and quantity per size — plus destination country. Commercial terms are confirmed at quotation.
