DIN 258 Taper Pins with External Thread
DIN 258 taper pins with external thread, nominal d 5–20 mm — the driven taper pin that carries a machined shoulder, a male stud thread (M5–M16) and a minimum grip length L2, for assemblies the pin must be nutted out of rather than drifted.

Specifications
A DIN 258 pin is a taper pin whose large end is machined down to a shoulder and cut with a male thread, so instead of being drifted out like a plain DIN 1 taper pin it can be released with a nut. The collected table runs the nominal taper series d = 5 to 20 mm; per size it carries the shoulder diameter d2 (5,5 mm at d 5 rising to 21,7 mm at d 20), the stud thread d3 (M 5 through M 12, then M 16 for both d 16 and d 20), the thread length b (14–35 mm), and L2 — the minimum distance from the threaded end to the point where the taper measures nominal, 25 mm at the 5 mm pin growing to 85 mm at the 20 mm pin. Reading order at assembly: size the taper seat from d exactly as for a plain taper pin (ream to a matched taper gauge, fit by hand-tight depth), let d2 clear the boss face so the nut seats on the shoulder not on the taper, and check that L2 leaves the measured taper inside the clamped parts rather than inside the thread runout. Where the drawing calls the same function with an internal thread — the pin pulled with a bolt instead of nutted — that is the DIN 7978 page on this catalog. Materials, finishes and shear ratings are not tabulated by the collected specification — per RFQ.

Materials
- Material and finish specified per RFQ — state the shear load, the clamped stack and the environment; tapered fits are size-critical and confirmed at quotation
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 258 Taper Pins with External Thread) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
How is a DIN 258 pin different from a plain taper pin or a DIN 7978 pin?
All three seat on the same nominal taper ladder — d 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 in this table — so the reamed seat and the fit-checking procedure are the same. The difference is the release mechanism at the large end. A plain DIN 1 / ISO 2339 taper pin is driven out with a drift; a DIN 258 pin is machined to a shoulder d2 and a male thread (M 5–M 16), so it is released by running a nut back off the stud — useful where a drift blow would damage the assembly or where the pin sits in a position a drift cannot reach. A DIN 7978 pin does the same job from the opposite side: its large end carries an internal thread and the pin is extracted by screwing a bolt in. Two readings off the collected DIN 258 table matter at assembly: L2 (25 mm at d 5 rising to 85 mm at d 20) is the distance from the threaded end to the point the taper measures nominal — it must land inside the clamped parts, so check it against the stack before final-sizing the bore; and the d3 ladder repeats M 16 at both d 16 and d 20, so the 20 mm pin does not step the thread up — the shoulder diameter d2 does the sizing there. Load ratings, materials and finishes are not in the collected table — quote them at RFQ.
