Specifications

DIN 1474 is the reverse-taper variant of the half-length grooved pin: the taper of the three pressed grooves runs opposite to the driving direction, so the wedge is narrowest at the pin's entry end. The effect is retention that tightens toward the entry side — the pin resists backing out of the hole it was driven into, which is the failure mode in vertically mounted hinges, handles and latches that work loose and drop. Everything else follows the family logic: three grooves, a plain drilled hole, no reaming, re-drivable. The collected table covers Φ1.5 to Φ25 — 14 sizes — with diameter limits, chamfer c ≈, the included reverse-taper angle α printed by the source as 70° (± 3°), the source's minimum double-shear values in kilonewtons, and its per-size groove-diameter range d 1. Lengths, materials and finishes are not printed by the collected specification and stay per RFQ.

Standard DIN 1474 — grooved pins, half length reverse-taper grooved (three-groove press-fit pin for drilled holes)
Size range Nominal diameters Φ1.5 – Φ25 (14 sizes tabulated); length to order
Tabulated geometry Per size: pin diameter d (min / max), chamfer c ≈, included reverse-taper angle α ± 3° (70°), groove diameter range d 1
Strength (source rows) Minimum double shear in kN per size, as printed by the source — 1.6 kN at Φ1.5 rising to 370.1 kN at Φ25
Function Reverse-taper wedge tightens toward the entry end: retention against the pin backing out of its hole
Materials / strength Not tabulated by the collected specification beyond the source shear rows — per RFQ
DIN 1474 grooved pins, half length reverse-taper grooved - per-size dimensions (Φ1.5 - Φ25)All dimensions in millimeters. d = pin diameter (min / max = nominal size, source row order); c ≈ = chamfer; α (± 3°) = included reverse-taper angle as printed by the source; d 1 = groove diameter range as printed by the source. The source's Φ14 d min cell reads 14.89 where the adjacent-size pattern is 13.89 — treated as an as-collected inconsistency and rendered '-' rather than silently corrected. Minimum double shear (kN) = the source's strength row, reproduced as printed. Lengths, materials, hardness and finishes are not tabulated by the collected specification.

Materials

  • Material and finish specified per RFQ — the collected specification table covers geometry and the source's strength rows only

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 1474 Grooved Pins, Half Length Reverse-Taper Grooved) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

When does the reverse taper earn its place?

When gravity and vibration both point out of the hole. A standard taper groove resists push-in along the driving axis; reverse it, and the wedge resists the pin backing out — the failure that drops vertically mounted door hardware, linkage pins and latched covers after the joint works loose. If the pin is captive inside a housing and the load is pure lateral shear, the extra geometry buys nothing and DIN 1473's parallel groove locates better. Note the drive detail: with the narrow wedge at the entry end, consistent insertion depth matters even more than with a standard taper — drive to a shoulder or stop. Size from the tabulated groove-diameter range against your drill tooling, and check the source's minimum double-shear row against the joint load.

What is the MOQ and lead time for this pin type?

Commercial terms for this family are confirmed at quotation — state sizes, tolerance class and quantities on the RFQ for a firm schedule. Common diameters in this pin type are widely stocked; confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
