Specifications

A straight slotted spring pin — also known as a roll pin — is hollow and split along the full length of the pin. Its resting diameter is larger than the hole it goes into; when driven in, the pin compresses to fit, then tries to expand back, pressing against the hole wall so the fit tightens under shock and vibration rather than loosening. At least one end is chamfered for insertion. DIN 1481 covers the heavy-type series and its ISO equivalency is ISO 8752. The collected table runs the dimension series 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13 mm with D1 min/max, bore D2 and wall S per size, plus single- and double-shear forces by diameter — sampled values are in the specification below. Spring pins suit joints that must tolerate shock, vibration and repeated insertion; where alignment must hold rigidly under a press fit, the solid parallel dowel pin (DIN 7 / ISO 2338) is the complementary choice.

Materials

  • Steel (spring pin grades per the collected chemistry table)
  • Stainless steel (austenitic groups per the collected ISO 3506-style table; 301 stainless named in the collected stock table)

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 1481 / ISO 8752 Slotted Spring Pins (Heavy Type)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantities and lead times for this family are confirmed at quotation — send your sizes, grades and quantities on the RFQ and the quote will carry a firm schedule. Sample availability is confirmed with the quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

What hole size does a DIN 1481 spring pin need?

The pin is sized by the hole: the collected table lists a recommended bore D2 for every dimension series — dimension 4.5 → D2 approx 2.9 mm, dimension 6 → 3.9 mm, dimension 8 → 5.5 mm, dimension 10 → 6.5 mm. Take the bore from the table row of the pin dimension, drill to it, and the compressed pin supplies the holding force. If the hole is already drilled and fixed, select the pin dimension whose D2 matches it.

How much shear load does a slotted spring pin carry?

The collected DIN 1481 / ISO 8752 table lists single- and double-shear force per dimension: single shear runs 0.35 kN at dimension 1 up to 57.6 kN at dimension 13; double shear runs 0.7 kN up to 115 kN across the same series. Double shear means the pin is loaded across two shear planes (a fork/clevis joint) and carries roughly twice the single-shear figure at the same size. Use the table value for the specific dimension as the reference figure and confirm the joint arrangement on the RFQ.

What should an RFQ for these pins state?

State the pin type (parallel dowel pin or slotted spring pin), the standard designation (DIN 7 / ISO 2338 or DIN 1481 / ISO 8752), nominal diameter and length, tolerance class where the drawing names one (m6 or h6 for dowel pins), material (steel property class or stainless grade), and quantity per size — plus destination country. Commercial terms are confirmed at quotation.
