DIN 463 Tab Washers (2 Tabs)

Tab washers per DIN 463 with two tabs at right angles — one tab locks against the component face, the other bends up against the flattened nut or screw flat for a positive mechanical lock, M3 through M52 in the collected table.

Specifications

The DIN 463 tab washer is a positive mechanical lock: instead of relying on friction, one of its two tabs seats against a shoulder or the machined face of the assembly, and after tightening, the second tab — set at a right angle to the first — is bent up against a flat of the nut or screw head. The joint then cannot rotate back off without physically breaking or re-bending the tab, which is why tab washers remain standard on rotating equipment, rail and heavy machinery where a loose nut is a safety event. The collected table runs M3 to M52 with tab width B, washer diameter D, overall length L and tab position L1 per size; because the tab must bend, selection also depends on the nut position at final tightening — the L1 ladder gives the reachable bend positions per size.

Standard DIN 463 — tab washer with 2 tabs, long and short tab at right angles
Locking mechanism Internal tab seats against the component; outer tab bends up against a nut or screw flat after tightening — positive mechanical lock, no friction reliance
Size range M3 through M52 — washer diameter D 7 mm to 98 mm, overall length L 13 mm to 85 mm
Tab geometry Tab width B 4–44 mm; tab position L1 5–53 mm per size (bend against the nearest flat at final tightening)
Thickness 0.38 mm (M3–M4), 0.5 mm (M5–M7), 0.75 mm (M8–M10), 1 mm (M12–M24), 1.6 mm (M27–M52)
Installation The outer tab bends up against the nearest nut or screw flat at final tightening; the L1 ladder gives the reachable bend positions per size

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 463 Tab Washers (2 Tabs)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Why use a tab washer instead of a lock nut or threadlocker?

Because it does not depend on friction or chemistry. A tab washer deforms: one tab is clamped, the other bent up against a flat, and the nut physically cannot rotate without destroying the tab. That lock survives temperature swings that soften threadlockers and vibration that walks a friction lock nut loose, which is why tab washers hold their place on rotating and heavy machinery. The tradeoff is assembly effort: the tab is bent at final nut position, so plan the bend so the nut reaches its final torque with a reachable flat — and a tab that has been bent once does not fold back and forth indefinitely, so treat a re-tightened joint as a new-washer job.

What is the MOQ and lead time for this washer type?

The minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; non-stock items are confirmed at quotation. Confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
