Specifications

DIN 7980 is the high-collar variant of the helical spring lock washer: a split ring, wound left-hand, whose raised inner collar matches the deep cylindrical head of a socket head cap screw. A standard DIN 127 lock washer is too wide at the bore and too low at the collar to seat properly under a cap screw head — the DIN 7980 form closes that gap, so the screw head compresses the coil flush and the split edges bite both the head face and the joint surface. Tightening flattens the ring; the spring force keeps tension on the head and the biting edges raise friction against back-off. Use it for slight to moderate vibration service on cap-screwed assemblies; for severe vibration, a prevailing-torque method holds better.

Standard DIN 7980 — high-collar helical spring lock washers for socket head cap screws
Series range M3 to M36 in the collected dimension series
Worked row (M8) 8.1–8.5 mm bore × 12.7 mm outer diameter (max) × 2 mm section, collar height 4–4.72 mm
Worked row (M12) 12.2–12.7 mm bore × 18 mm outer diameter (max) × 2.5 mm section, collar height 5–5.9 mm
Coil geometry Left-hand helix — the nut tightens in the right-hand direction only, as the split edges seat
Locking mechanism Flattens under tightening; spring force plus split-edge bite raise friction against back-off
Stock range Collected stock statement: M2 to M30, high-grade A1 and marine-grade A4 stainless steel

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 7980 High-Collar Spring Lock Washers) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Why a DIN 7980 collar washer under a socket head cap screw instead of a DIN 127 lock washer?

Because the bearing faces do not match. A socket head cap screw bears on a circular face inside a deep cylindrical head, and its fillet runs close to the bore; a standard DIN 127 split washer has a wide, low section that can sit skewed under the head and lose bite. The DIN 7980 collar raises and centers the bearing inside the head diameter, so the coil compresses flat and the split edges dig in as designed. The locking behavior itself is the same class as DIN 127 — spring tension plus edge bite for slight to moderate vibration, not a substitute for a prevailing-torque or positive locking method under severe vibration.

What is the MOQ and lead time for this washer type?

The minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; non-stock items are confirmed at quotation. Common sizes in this washer type are widely stocked; confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.

What should an RFQ for this washer type state?

State the standard designation and form (for example ISO 7090 chamfered or DIN 7980 high-collar), the nominal bolt or screw size it must fit, material and hardness requirements, finish (plain, zinc-plated, or hot-dip galvanized where the assembly calls for it), required certificates such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1, and quantity per size — plus destination country.
