Specifications

DIN 546 is the slotted round nut in the small sizes — M1 up to M20 — the low-profile screwed adjuster locked by a cotter or screw through its slots: bearing adjustment rings on small shafts, instrument and optical mounts, springs and preload collars. The collected 09/2010-edition table (superseding 09/1986) gives pitch, outer diameter dk max=nom (3 at M1.2 up to 32 at M20), the slot depth range printed as two columns under the same t min÷max label (the source's own doubled header, carried verbatim — read as the min and max of the slot depth pair), height m max=nom (1 at M1 to 14 at M20), slot width n nom and the mass per 1000 pcs. The tiny sizes (M1–M3.5) are what separate this standard from the bigger slotted-nut series: watchmaker-to-instrument scale work where the nut is essentially a threaded washer with slots.

Standard / scope DIN 546 slotted round nuts — M1 to M20, edition 09/2010 (supersedes 09/1986)
Outer diameter dk max=nom: 3 (M1.2), 6 (M3), 11 (M8), 18 (M10), 32 (M20)
Slot depth t Printed as two columns under a doubled t min÷max label (source quirk, verbatim) — the slot-depth min/max pair per size: 0.3/0.5 at M1-class to 4.8/5.5 at M20
Height m / slot width n m max=nom 1 (M1) to 14 (M20); n nom 0.3 (M1) to 5 (M20)
Mass Approximate kg per 1000 pcs (ρ=7,85 kg/dm³) per size: 0.034 at M1 to 57.2 at M20
Not tabulated Material, slot-locking element (cotter/screw), finish — per RFQ

Materials

  • The small sizes order in free-cutting steel, brass (the classic instrument material, non-magnetic and corrosion-tolerant) and stainless A2; the locking element is ordered separately — the slot pair takes a flat cotter or a small set screw riding across it. Say which locking method the assembly uses, since slot width n and depth t must match the element, not just the standard

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 546 Slotted Round Nuts) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

The table prints the slot depth as two identical "t min÷max" columns — which is which?

That doubled header is exactly as the source page prints it — a colspan artifact the transcription flagged rather than normalized. Read it as the slot-depth pair: first column the t min value, second the t max (0.3 and 0.5 at the smallest sizes, 4.8 and 5.5 at M20). The pair matters when the locking element is driven across the slots: the cotter diameter must pass through the slot width n while bottoming inside the t band, or the lock rides loose. If your assembly uses a standard cotter size, send it with the RFQ and we check the t/n fit per size against the grid before quoting.

How far down the thread ladder do you actually supply?

The tabulated range starts at M1, and the practical supply split is: M4 upward is regular production, M1.6–M3.5 is instrument-scale work supplied on the same standards but in brass and free-cutting steels with the correspondingly small slot geometry, and M1/M1.2 are specialty items quoted per batch. For anything below M4, state the application (optical mount, sensor, watch-scale assembly) and quantity — the machining route, not the standard, sets the price at that scale. All sizes order against the same DIN 546 call-out with the dk/t/m values checked from the table.
