Specifications

ISO 2982 part 2 is the locknut that clamps bearings, sleeves and gear faces onto threaded shafts — the collected 04/2013-edition tables carry both series the standard defines: the 4-slot locknut from M10 through M200 (plus the transition into the Tr metric trapezoidal thread series) and the 8-slot locknut running Tr 220 up to Tr 1120 for the largest shafts. Per size the tables give pitch (1 at M10 to 4 at M200-class, 7 across the large Tr sizes), the precision diameters d2 and d3 (350/320.0 at Tr 280) — d3 being the runout-critical face-bearing diameter that decides the locknut's seating quality — height h (38 at Tr 280, up to 125 on the larger 8-slot sizes), slot width b and slot depth t. The 8-slot series exists for the locking pin loads of big bearings: eight slots give a finer angular indexing of the tightening position, which at these thread pitches is the difference between correct and excessive clamping.

Standard / scope ISO 2982 part 2 locknuts — 4-slot series M10–M200 + Tr transition (edition 04/2013, supersedes ISO 2982:1995-08); 8-slot series Tr 220–Tr 1120 (2013)
Threads / pitch Metric M10 (P 1) to M200 (P 4); Tr trapezoidal Tr 210–Tr 1120 (P 4 to 7) — pitch column printed per size
Precision diameters d2 and d3 per size (Tr 280: 350 / 320.0) — d3 is the seating-face diameter, the runout-critical dimension
Height / slots h per size (38 at Tr 280, 125 on the larger 8-slot sizes); slot width b (24 at Tr 280) and depth t (12)
Not tabulated Tolerance class, face runout values, locking element (lockwasher MB / clip), material — per RFQ

Materials

  • Bearing locknuts order in hardened and tempered steel with the d3 face ground — the face is the bearing surface and its flatness, not the thread, is what the grade sells; stainless and coated variants for corrosive plants. Order the locknut with its locking element (DIN 5406 MB lockwasher — registered here — or locking clip) and state the shaft thread designation including pitch, because the Tr series shares nominal sizes across pitches

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (ISO 2982 Rolling Bearing Lock Nuts) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the range switch from metric M threads to Tr trapezoidal threads?

Load per turn. Below M200-class the locknut tightens with a hook spanner and the metric thread carries the clamp; on large shafts the tightening torque becomes enormous, and the Tr trapezoidal thread — deeper, stronger flanks, coarser pitch — survives the wrench work and the service re-tightening without deforming. That is why the collected tables split at the M200/Tr boundary: the 4-slot series is spanner territory, the 8-slot series enters the world where tightening is a two-person, torque-monitored job. When ordering, quote the full shaft thread including pitch ("Tr 280 × 4") — several Tr nominal diameters exist in two pitches and the d2/d3 geometry follows the pitch, not just the size.

4 slots or 8 slots — and what does slot count actually buy me?

Angular indexing. The lockwasher tongue or locking clip engages a slot, so the nut can only lock at positions where a slot aligns — more slots mean finer steps between lockable positions. On a fine-pitch small nut the 4-slot steps are already tight enough to reach correct clamp; on a Tr 280 × 4 one slot-step rotates the face several hundredths of a millimetre axially, which is real bearing clearance, so the 8-slot series halves the step. The practical rule the two tables encode: follow the bearing/sleeve manufacturer's series call-out (they sized the shaft end for it), and when designing new, count the clamp resolution you need against the pitch — the h and t columns here give the geometry both series share.
