Specifications

The DIN 935 castle nut answers the question "what if this bolted joint must be reliably re-checkable?" Its hex body tightens like any nut; the cylindrical crown above the hex carries radial slots, and after tightening a cotter (split) pin passes through the slot and a cross-hole drilled in the bolt. The pin, not friction, holds the nut — so the joint survives vibration and service checks without re-torque, and any inspection can verify the lock at a glance because a bent pin is either there or it is not. That is why castle nuts remain standard on wheel hubs, linkages, steering components, and rotating equipment where loss of the nut is a failure event. The collected table runs the full series M4 to M100: nut height m (the crown makes it taller than a plain hex nut), the slot width n the pin must fit, across-flats s, and — read off the same row — the split-pin size per DIN EN ISO 1234 from Series ② that pairs with each thread. Assembly needs the matching drilled bolt; quote both together, and size the pin from the table row rather than guessing from the thread.

Standard DIN 935 — hex slotted and castle nuts (crown with radial slots for cotter pin)
Size range M4 through M100 — width across flats s max (= nominal) 7–145 mm, height m max (= nominal) 5–100 mm
Slot geometry Slot width n tabulated min/max per size (crown slots for the cotter pin)
Cotter pin pairing Split pin size per DIN EN ISO 1234, Series ②, printed per size (e.g. 1x10 at M4, 10x160 at M100)
Locking mechanism Positive: cotter pin through nut slot and bolt cross-hole — no friction or preload dependence, visually inspectable

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 935 Hex Slotted and Castle Nuts) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Castle nut or a prevailing-torque lock nut — when is the pin the right answer?

When the joint is serviced or safety-checked regularly. A prevailing-torque lock nut holds by friction that degrades with each re-assembly and offers no visual proof it is still engaged; a DIN 935 with its cotter pin holds positively regardless of preload, re-assembles with a fresh pin in seconds, and anyone can see whether the lock is in place. That is the logic behind its grip on wheel hubs, steering and linkage pins, and rotating equipment. The costs: the bolt needs a cross-hole, assembly takes a pin operation, and the nut is taller — so for sealed, never-serviced joints a friction lock nut is usually simpler.

What has to be ordered together for a working castle-nut joint?

Three parts: the DIN 935 nut, a bolt with a cross-hole for the pin at the right position, and the cotter (split) pin itself. The collected table pairs each thread with its Series ② split-pin size per DIN EN ISO 1234 — 1x10 at M4 rising to 10x160 at M100 — so take the pin size from the same row as the nut rather than estimating. State all three on the RFQ, plus material and finish per environment; if the assembly is exposed to weather or washdown, the pin material matters as much as the nut.

What is the MOQ and lead time for this nut type?

The minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; non-stock items are confirmed at quotation. Confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
