Specifications

DIN 979 is the thin cousin of the DIN 935 castle and slotted nut family: a hex nut of reduced height k whose upper portion carries a slot (or full castle slots) that takes a split cotter pin through the mating bolt, and whose thin body is what you reach for when stack height is tight or when the nut works as a jam counter-nut against a primary nut. Two uses dominate. As a cotter lock: drill the cotter through the slots and the pin — not friction — stops rotation, which is why slotted nuts survive on linkages, yokes and steering geometry where a loose nut is a safety event. As a jam nut: run the DIN 979 up hard against a working nut and the counter-facing threads wedge the pair. The collected tables run M6 to M52 with coarse plus fine-pitch pitch rows, countersink d e (printed "-" for the M6-M10 sizes — a source quirk kept verbatim), across-corners e, height k, thickness below the slot w, slot width n and across-flats s. Materials, property classes and finishes are not printed by the collected specification and stay per RFQ.

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 979 Hex Thin Slotted and Castle Nuts) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

DIN 979 or DIN 935 — which slotted nut for my assembly?

By height budget and by what the joint can carry. DIN 935 is the full-height castle nut: more engaged thread, more clamp, and the standard pick where the nut is the primary fastening. DIN 979 trades height for a thinner profile — the collected tables show k at roughly 60–70% of the DIN 935 value per size — so use it where the bolt cannot give up the stack height, where the nut jams against a primary nut rather than clamping a joint itself, or where a shorter bolt keeps the cotter hole inside the engaged thread. Whichever you pick, the cotter needs a clear path: check the slot width n column against your pin, and the hole in the bolt against the slot position, before you commit — a cotter that will not pass is a field rework. Mind the source quirk on d e (printed "-" at M6-M10) and confirm the countersink at RFQ if your housing uses one.

What is the MOQ and lead time for this nut type?

The minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; non-stock items are confirmed at quotation. Common sizes in this nut type are widely stocked; confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
