A DIN 582 lifting eye nut is a load-rated ring with a female thread: it screws onto a threaded stud, lifting boss or anchor and turns any fixed thread into a hoisting point. The ring is a full torus — unlike the DIN 580 eyebolt, whose eye is forged from the shank — so the sling shackle bears on a continuous ring section, and the nut can be removed and re-used across fixtures, moulds and machine beds. Eye nut or eyebolt — how do I choose the lifting point?
The thread decides it. A DIN 580 eyebolt needs a tapped hole it can be screwed into; a DIN 582 eye nut needs a stud or boss with male thread standing proud of the surface. Eye nuts win where the mount already has a stud (cast lifting bosses on castings and moulds) and where the point must be removed often — a nut unscrews without wearing a tapped hole. In both families the rule that breaks hardware is sideways loading: the ring is rated for the loading direction the standard assumes, and a sling that pulls at an angle derates the point sharply, which is why large sizes take a shackle in the ring rather than a hook directly. Give your supplier the thread, the pull direction and the duty cycle, and have the working load limit confirmed in writing.
