DIN 480 Square Head Bolts with Collar and Dog Point
DIN 480 square head bolts combining the DIN 478 collar with the DIN 479 dog point, M8 to M24 — machined seat plus pilot location in one bolt — with the full collected 8-column table: dog point d p and z, collar d c, head height k, radius r and across flats/corners.

Specifications
DIN 480 is the full-featured member of the square head family: it carries the turned collar of DIN 478 under the head and the short dog point of DIN 479 on the shank end. One bolt therefore both locates (the dog engages the clearance hole, so nothing shifts and nothing spins while the nut is run) and seats on a machined face (the collar, so the clamp bears on a turned surface instead of a forging). That is the usual specification for clamp fixtures and machine-building joints where both conditions apply at once. The collected table covers M8 to M24 — 8 printed columns, with the source's across-flats variant labels "M16 SW 16", "M16 SW 17", "M20 SW 21" and "M20 SW 22" reproduced verbatim. Tabulated per size: the angle a, chamfer c, collar d c, dog point d p with projection z, head height k, radius r and across flats s / corners e with their limits. Materials, property classes and finishes are not printed by the collected specification and stay per RFQ.
| Standard | DIN 480 — square head bolts with collar and short dog point (located seat-and-pilot through bolt) |
|---|---|
| Series | M8 – M24 (8 tabulated columns; across-flats variants printed "SW 16"/"SW 17"/"SW 21"/"SW 22" by the source) |
| Tabulated geometry | Per size: pitch P, angle a (max), chamfer c (min/max), collar d c (max/min), dog point d p (max/min) and projection z (min/max), head height k (nominal/min/max), radius r (min), across flats s (max/min), across corners e (max/min) |
| Function | Dog point locates the joint and prevents rotation; collar provides the machined bearing face |
| Materials / strength | Not tabulated by the collected specification — per RFQ (property class per clamping load) |
| Size | P | a — max | c — min | c — max | d c — max=nominal size | d c — min | d p — max=nominal size | d p — min | k — Nominal Size | k — min | k — max | r — min | s — max=nominal size | s — min | z — min=nominal size | z — max |

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 480 Square Head Bolts with Collar and Dog Point) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items run 3–7 days. High-strength and custom parts run 15–25 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
DIN 479 or DIN 480 for a located square-head joint?
Look at the clamped face, not the bolt. If the head bears on rough steel, timber or a washer-tolerant surface, DIN 479 gives you the dog point and the forged head at the lighter part. If the head seats directly on a machined pad, fixture table or finished housing, DIN 480 adds the collar so the bearing face is turned rather than as-forged — the same reason DIN 478 exists for un-located joints. Both forms locate identically: match the dog point d p to the hole and keep the projection z under the second member's thickness, reading both from the collected table (mind the SW variant labels, which the source uses to split M16 and M20 across two across-flats values each — pick the column that matches your wrench set and hole tooling).
What is the MOQ and lead time for this bolt type?
The minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; high-strength and custom parts in 15–25 days. Common diameters in this bolt type are widely stocked; confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
