DIN 601 Hexagon Head Bolts, Product Grade C
DIN 601 hexagon head bolts, product grade C, M5 to M52: shank tolerances, thread lengths by grip band, head geometry and the commercial length ladder to 300 mm.
Last updated: 2026-11
Specifications
DIN 601 is the withdrawn rough-grade-C hex bolt standard that a large installed base of drawings still carries — the collected table runs M5 to M52 with shank tolerances (ds min/max, e.g. 4.82/5.00 at M5 up to 51/53 at M52), the three-thread-length bands b printed separately for l≤125, l>125≤200 and l>200 (at M16: 38/44/57), head height k nom, width across flats s and e min (88.25 at M52), and the chamfer c max. The withdrawn status is the source page's own label (publication date 09/1987): for new designs the equivalent metric grade-C hex products are the registered ISO 4016 bolt and ISO 4018 screw pages, while DIN 601 keeps serving legacy bills of material and replacement work. The commercial length ladder runs 25 to 300 mm with the per-size availability the mass table implies.

|---|---|
| Shank ds min/max | Toleranced per size: 4.82/5.00 at M5, 9.85/10.00 at M10, 15.65/16.00 at M16, 51/53 at M52 |
| Thread length b | Three grip bands printed per size: l≤125, l>125≤200, l>200 (M12: 30/36/49; M20: 46/52/65; M52: 80/92/103) |
| Head geometry | k nom 3.5 (M5) to 33 (M52); s nom/max and e min per size (e min 8.63 at M5, 88.25 at M52); c max 0.5–1 |
| Commercial lengths | Ladder 25 to 300 mm with per-diameter availability; approximate mass per 1000 pcs (ρ=7,85 kg/dm³) tabulated per size/length |
| Not tabulated | Strength classes, finish, thread tolerance class — grade C product, confirmed at quotation |
Materials
- Grade C means a rough, toleranced bolt for non-precision holes — typically supplied in mild or medium-carbon steel in the properties class the order states (commonly 4.6/5.6 for this product form). State properties class, finish (self-colour, zinc-plated or hot-dip galvanized — coating changes the wrench size fit on the upper sizes) and thread protection on the RFQ; the collected tables carry geometry and mass only
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 601 Hexagon Head Bolts, Product Grade C) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items run 3–7 days. High-strength and custom parts run 15–25 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
DIN 601 is withdrawn — can you still supply to that call-out?
Yes — the standard is withdrawn but the part is still ordered every day against legacy drawings, and we quote DIN 601 by number, size and length as printed. Two things to pin down on the RFQ: the properties class (the DIN 601 tables fix geometry, not strength) and whether the drawing accepts the current grade-C equivalents ISO 4016 (partial thread) / ISO 4018 (full thread), which are dimensionally compatible in the common sizes. Where the drawing is a living document, quoting the ISO equivalent usually buys better availability and finish options at the same joint function.
Which of the three b (thread length) columns applies to my bolt?
The band is chosen by the grip: read b (l≤125) for bolts up to and including 125 mm long, b (l>125≤200) for 126–200 mm, and b (l>200) above that — the thread grows in steps as the bolt gets longer so the unthreaded shank stays proportionate. At M16 the ladder is 38/44/57 mm across the three bands. If your joint needs the thread to reach into the grip or to stop short of it, state the required thread length explicitly on the RFQ instead of relying on the band, and we confirm the as-produced b against the standard before shipping.
