ISO 4017 Hex Screws (Fully Threaded)

Fully threaded hexagon head screws per ISO 4017 — threaded to the head across M1.6 to M64 in product grades A and B, sharing ISO 4014's head geometry. Dimensional counterpart: ISO 4014 (partially threaded); predecessor standard: DIN 933.

Specifications

ISO 4017 is the fully threaded member of the metric hex-head pair: the thread runs along essentially the whole usable length beneath the head, which is why industrial purchasing language usually calls it a "fully threaded hex bolt" even though the standard's own term is hexagon head screw. Full threading is a practical choice more often than an engineered one: it accommodates thin clamped stacks, grip lengths that vary across similar assemblies, and maintenance inventories where one fully threaded length has been approved for several joint thicknesses. The cost is geometric, and the comparison sources state it plainly — the thread passes through locations where an ISO 4014 bolt would have provided a smooth shank, so if the joint carries transverse load and the shear plane falls through the threaded region, that geometry has to be evaluated rather than assumed equivalent. Like ISO 4014 it covers M1.6 to M64 in product grades A and B (tolerance, not strength); the property class comes from ISO 898-1, and the predecessor designation still seen on older drawings is DIN 933.

Standard ISO 4017 — hexagon head screws, product grades A and B, threaded to the head; covers M1.6–M64
Thread Metric coarse pitch; full thread along the applicable usable length beneath the head
Product grades A and B — dimensional tolerance classes, not strength; property class specified separately (ISO 898-1)
Head dimensions (anchor sizes from the collected table) Head geometry is shared with ISO 4014: width across flats s 8 mm at M5, 10 at M6, 13 at M8, 16 at M10, 18 at M12, 24 at M16, 30 at M20, 36 at M24, 55 at M36, 75 at M48; head height k nominal 3.5 mm at M5 to 30 mm at M48
Width across corners e (min, collected table) 8.79 mm at M5, 11.05 at M6, 14.38 at M8, 17.77 at M10, 20.03 at M12, 26.75 at M16, 33.53 at M20, 39.98 at M24, 60.79 at M36, 82.6 at M48
Coarse pitch (collected table) 0.35 mm at M1.6 to 6.0 mm at M64 (0.5 at M3, 0.7 at M4, 0.8 at M5, 1.0 at M6, 1.25 at M8, 1.5 at M10, 1.75 at M12, 2.0 at M14/M16, 2.5 at M18–M22, 3.0 at M24/M27, 4.0 at M36/M39, 5.0 at M48/M52)
Series extent The collected table also prints M1/M1.2/M1.4 rows, labelled there as below the ISO 4017 range (M1.6–M64) and supplied as a manufacturer series — quote those sizes as specials, not as ISO 4017
Finish Governed separately — ISO 4042 for electroplating; hot-dip galvanizing where the class and fit allow
Predecessor / counterpart DIN 933 (close correspondence); ISO 4014 for the partially threaded configuration; ISO 8676 for the fine-pitch series

Materials

  • Steel property class per ISO 898-1 (e.g. 8.8, 10.9) or stainless per ISO 3506 — specified separately from the dimensional standard

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (ISO 4017 Hex Screws (Fully Threaded)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items run 3–7 days. High-strength and custom parts run 15–25 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

The head looks identical to an ISO 4014 bolt — are they the same part?

No, and head comparison is exactly the trap the comparison sources warn about. ISO 4014 and 4017 share the same head geometry family, so two bolts can look identical across the head while differing in what matters downstream: thread length, unthreaded shank length and thread runout location. The sources' checklist for verifying a supposed equivalent runs through nominal diameter, overall length, pitch, thread and shank lengths, runout, product grade, property class and coating thickness — and their rule is not to treat the two standards as automatically interchangeable. Verify grip, thread engagement and shear-plane location before substituting one for the other.

When is fully threaded the right call?

When assembly flexibility is the requirement: thin clamped stacks where a defined shank would leave too little thread, grip lengths that vary across similar assemblies, adjustment along more of the fastener body, short bolts that need an extended threaded region, and maintenance inventories where one fully threaded length covers several approved joint thicknesses. What it does not buy is equivalence in a joint designed around a shank — introducing a fully threaded screw into such a joint means checking shear plane, bearing, fatigue and alignment, per the comparison sources. Where the shear plane must stay on full-diameter steel, that is ISO 4014's job.

What is the MOQ and lead time for this bolt grade?

The minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; high-strength and custom parts in 15–25 days. Common diameters in this grade are widely stocked; confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.

What should an RFQ for this bolt grade state?

State the standard and grade (for example ISO 4017 Class 8.8 or ASTM F3125 Grade A325 Type 1), diameter and length, thread type (metric coarse or UNC/UNF), finish (plain, zinc, or hot-dip galvanized where the grade permits), required certificates such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1, and quantity per size — plus destination country.
