U-Bolts by Pipe Size (IFI-136 Waterworks Series)
U-bolts sized by nominal pipe size, 1/2 through 36 in, in the waterworks series: bolt diameter 1/4–1 in, hook (inside-leg spacing) C 15/16–36 1/8 in, length L 3 1/4–39 11/16 in and thread length T 2 3/8–4 3/4 in per the IFI-136 measuring convention. The pipe clamp and hanger bolt of waterworks and mechanical-joint assemblies.

Specifications
A U-bolt wraps a pipe and lands on a support: the curved bend rides the pipe barrel, the two legs pass through a clamp, flange or bracket, and nuts on the threaded ends clamp the assembly — which is why the pipe size, not a head standard, is how this bolt is specified. The collected size chart follows the Industrial Fastener Institute IFI-136 measuring convention, and its definitions matter when comparing suppliers' charts: length L runs from the end of the bolt to the inside of the bend, and hook C is the distance between the legs (some drawings show these dimensions from centreline instead — state the convention with the order). The series runs from 1/2 pipe (1/4 in bolt diameter, hook 15/16 in, length 3 1/4 in) up through 36 pipe (1 in bolt diameter, hook 36 1/8 in, length 39 11/16 in), with the thread length T stepping 2 3/8 in at the small end to 4 3/4 in at the large. The collected chart tabulates the thread length but not the thread series, so the UNC/UNF callout is confirmed at quotation. U-bolts outside the charted ladder are made to drawing: state pipe size, hook, length, thread length, diameter and finish.

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (U-Bolts by Pipe Size (IFI-136 Waterworks Series)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items run 3–7 days. High-strength and custom parts run 15–25 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Why do supplier U-bolt charts disagree on the same pipe size?
Usually it is the measuring convention, not the part. The IFI-136 convention — followed by the collected chart — measures length from the bolt end to the inside of the bend and the hook as the clear distance between legs; other charts show both dimensions to centreline, which shifts every number by one leg radius. When quoting or cross-referencing, state the convention alongside pipe size, diameter, hook, length and thread length, and the discrepancy disappears. The same discipline applies to custom U-bolts: a drawing without the convention noted is the most common source of a bent bolt that does not fit its clamp.
What does an RFQ for U-bolts need to state?
Nominal pipe size is the anchor, but the four IFI-136 dimensions close the drawing: bolt diameter (1/4–1 in across this series), hook C, length L and thread length T, each in the IFI-136 or centreline convention stated explicitly. Add thread series once confirmed, material and finish for the environment (waterworks hardware is commonly galvanized or stainless — grade confirmed at quotation), nut quantity per leg and any certificate requirement such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1. Sizes outside the standard ladder are quoted to drawing.
What is the MOQ and lead time for U-bolts?
The minimum order quantity is 1,000–10,000 pieces depending on size. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; high-strength and custom parts in 15–25 days. Confirm the exact schedule against quantity and pipe-size mix at quotation.
