Specifications

The cone point is the most aggressive end the set-screw family offers: a full 90° cone that concentrates the entire tightening torque on a point, driving into the shaft material like a grub screw-sized set punch. That bite is why it is chosen for soft shafts — aluminium, brass, plastics — where cup or flat points would strip or slip, and for semi-permanent joints where the screw is set once and the small cone crater it leaves is acceptable. The collected B18.3 table runs 24 sizes from #0 to 2 in and carries two pieces of geometry per size: the shared body data — screw diameter, threads per inch across UNC, UNF and (from 1/4 in) UNEF, socket nominal size s, minimum socket depth t — and a cone-specific table giving the nominal length L below which the cone is shortened (the "short cone" ladder, 0.13 in at #0 rising to 2.5 in at 2 in) together with the 90° nominal point angle. The short-cone column matters in thin hubs: below that length the cone is truncated to keep the point from breaking through the opposite wall, so minimum-length joints should be checked against it before ordering. Flat, cup and dog point variants are covered on their own pages.

Standard ANSI/ASME B18.3 — hex socket set screws, cone point (inch series)
Series #0 – 2 in (24 sizes tabulated); UNC/UNF/UNEF per size
Tabulated geometry Per size: nominal diameter d, threads per inch by series (UNC / UNF / UNEF), socket nominal size s, socket depth t (min), short-cone nominal length L ladder, point angle α 90°
At 1/4 UNC 20 / UNF 28 / UNEF 32; socket s 0.125 in; depth t min 0.125 in; short-cone L 0.44 in nominal; point angle 90°
At 1/2 UNC 13 / UNF 20 / UNEF 28; socket s 0.25 in; depth t min 0.25 in; short-cone L 0.63 in nominal; point angle 90°
At 1 UNC 8 / UNF 12 / UNEF 20; socket s 0.562 in; depth t min 0.562 in; short-cone L 1.25 in nominal; point angle 90°
Materials / strength Not tabulated by the collected specification — per RFQ (hardness and finish per drawing callout; set screws are normally through-hardened)

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (ANSI B18.3 Hex Socket Set Screws, Cone Point) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the cone-point table list a "short cone" length per size?

Because the cone needs material to live in. Below the listed L — 0.44 in at 1/4, 0.63 in at 1/2, 1.25 in at 1 — the standard shortens the cone so that the full 90° point still forms within the screw length; a full-depth cone on a very short screw would leave no cylindrical thread engagement in the hub. The ladder is therefore a thin-joint check: if the hub wall or the screw length sits near that boundary, the point geometry changes, and with it the seating torque and the bite the joint was designed around. It also bounds the breakthrough risk — a full cone driven hard against a thin-walled aluminium hub can punch the point through the far side. Check the short-cone column whenever the screw length is under about one and a half diameters, and prefer a cup or flat point when the hub cannot give the cone room.

What is the MOQ and lead time for these screws?

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
