Specifications

DIN 551 is the headless flat-point set screw: a fully threaded stub with a slot cut where the head would be, ending in a flat perpendicular point that presses squarely against the opposing surface. Because there is no head at all, the screw vanishes into the part — flush inside a collar, hub or latch — and the flat point spreads its clamp over the widest circle of any point form, leaving no more than a polished contact ring on the shaft. It is the choice where the mating surface must not be marked: stainless shafting, anodised parts, glass scales, adjustments that are re-made repeatedly. The collected table runs deeper than its dog- and cup-point siblings — down to M1 — and tabulates per size: the point diameter dp with max=nominal / min limits, the slot width n printed as Nominal with min/max limits, the slot depth t (min=nominal / max) and the pitch P. The slot is the only drive, so a correctly sized flat blade — matched to the n column — is what keeps the tiny M1–M2 slots from being chewed. Materials, property classes and finishes are not printed by the collected specification and follow the drawing callout.

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (DIN 551 Slotted Grub Screws with Flat Point) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Flat point (DIN 551) or cup point (DIN 438) — both are slotted set screws, so when does the point form matter?

Compare the contact geometry: the flat point bears on its full point diameter — the dp column runs close to the thread minor, e.g. 4 mm nominal at M6 — so seating torque spreads over a wide circle and the shaft surface stays essentially unmarked. The cup point shrinks that contact to a narrow rim (dz 3 mm nominal at M6) and deliberately bites in for higher rotation resistance. So the rule of thumb: DIN 551 where the point re-seats often or the surface must survive — stainless shafting, adjusted settings, soft or finished parts; DIN 438 where the joint must never slip and a witness mark is acceptable. Both share the same slot limits n and t, so the driver tooling does not change between them.

What is the MOQ and lead time for these screws?

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
