DIN 561 Set Screws, Small Hexagon, Full Dog Point
DIN 561 hexagon set screws with small hexagon and full dog point, M6 to M56: pitch, dp, e min, k, reduced s, dog point z and the commercial length ladder to 300 mm.

Specifications
DIN 561 is the large-set-screw standard — M6 up to M56 — with the small hexagon the big sizes need (s nom=max 75 and e min 83.91 at M56, against k nom 40), the full dog point z (min=nom 28 at M56) that locates in a matching hole instead of biting the shaft, and the thread data P / a max / dp nom=max per size. The collected 02/1995-edition table carries all of it plus the commercial length ladder from 12 to 300 mm — the long relative lengths this standard exists for: a dog-point screw engaged deep in a groove needs body length, not head clearance. Dog points set collars, gears and sprockets where the point rides in a drilled dimple; the full form spreads the holding load and survives re-tightening, unlike a cone point.
| Standard / scope | DIN 561 hexagon set screws, small hexagon, full dog point — M6 to M56, edition 02/1995 (supersedes 02/1985) |
|---|---|
| Thread / point | P, a max, dp nom=max per size; dog point z min=nom: 4 (M6-class) to 28 (M56) |
| Small hexagon | k nom and reduced s nom=max per size — s 75 / e min 83.91 / k 40 at M56 (smaller WAF than standard hex of the same thread) |
| Commercial lengths l | Ladder 12 to 300 mm across M6–M56; approximate mass per 1000 pcs (ρ=7,85 kg/dm³) tabulated |
| Not tabulated | Property class (45H-type for set screws), finish, point hardness — per RFQ |
Materials
- Set screws order in property class 45H alloy steel (hardened, with hardened point) as the default, unplated black or zinc-plated; stainless A2/A4 for corrosive locations at reduced torque. The dog point rides in a mating hole — state the hole diameter it must seat in when it differs from the standard z geometry, and the shaft/groove material, since galling is the failure mode on stainless-into-stainless
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 561 Set Screws, Small Hexagon, Full Dog Point) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Why the small hexagon — and does that change the wrench I need?
Yes, deliberately: above the sizes covered by the ordinary socket set-screw standards, DIN 561 keeps the across-flats small so the head fits the boss diameters set-screws live in — the head is a hex drive, not a socket, so the wrench (not an allen key) is sized to the printed s column. At M56 that is s = 75, well under a standard M56 hex nut. Check your drawing's wrench size against the table before shipping tools to site; using the wrong (larger) s assumption is a classic site delay. The e min column gives the corner-to-corner check for the wrench fit.
When do I pick the full dog point over a cone or cup point?
When the part must stay located and re-adjustable. A cone point digs into the shaft and holds by brinelling — fine for permanent setting, destructive to the surface. The full dog point of DIN 561 engages a drilled hole in the shaft or a groove, holding by shear across the point diameter z; the joint survives repeated re-tightening, thermal cycling and slight rotation without chewing the mating face. The price is the extra machining: you drill the hole to match z. If you cannot machine the shaft, a cup or flat point set screw (registered separately) holds by bite instead.
