ISO 15480 Thread Forming Screws for Metric ISO Threads
ISO 15480 thread forming screws for metric ISO threads M3 to M6 — screws that roll a standard-pitch metric thread into a prepared hole, with the collected d2/k/m (PZ-Bit) attribute rows.
Last updated: 2026-11
Specifications
Thread forming screws for metric ISO threads roll (not cut) a standard-pitch metric thread into a properly sized pilot hole, so the mating thread reads ISO form and the fastener can be removed and refitted into the same boss without chewing it — the usual choice for thermoplastic housings and die-cast bosses that must survive service. The collected page is deliberately thin: four attribute rows over M 3 – M 6 — head diameter d2 (5,6 → 11 mm), head height k (1,65 → 3) and the Pozidriv bit row m (PZ-Bit): PZ 1 at M 3, PZ 2 at M 4/M 5, PZ 3 at M 6. Pilot-hole sizing and thread-forming torque are not tabulated by the collected specification — those depend on the boss material, and we quote them per RFQ against your host drawing. Property class and finish likewise per RFQ.
| Standard | ISO 15480 — thread forming screws for metric ISO threads (rolled, reusable form) |

| Head geometry | d2 max.: 5,6 (M 3) → 11 mm (M 6); k: 1,65 → 3 |
| Drive | Pozidriv per the m (PZ-Bit) row: PZ 1 / PZ 2 / PZ 2 / PZ 3 across M 3 – M 6 |
| Not tabulated | Pilot-hole ladder, forming torque, length range — depend on the host boss material, per RFQ |

Materials
- Material and class specified per RFQ — thread forming into plastics and die-castings commonly runs case-hardened steel; state the host boss material, wall thickness and reusability requirement at quotation, since the pilot-hole size and forming torque follow from them
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (ISO 15480 Thread Forming Screws for Metric ISO Threads) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Thread forming (ISO 15480) or thread cutting — which screw for my plastic boss?
Reuse and chip control. A forming screw rolls the boss material aside without removing it: no chips to pack the boss or escape into the assembly, and a work-hardened mating thread that typically survives several refits. A thread-cutting screw is faster to drive and gentler on very brittle bosses, but it removes material and wears out on reassembly. The collected ISO 15480 rows are deliberately minimal (d2, k and the Pozidriv drive per size, M 3 – M 6) because the numbers that actually decide the joint — pilot-hole diameter and seating torque — belong to the boss material, not the screw standard: quote them per RFQ against your housing drawing. One practical note: Pozidriv (PZ), not Phillips — the bit row is explicit (PZ 1 at M 3 up to PZ 3 at M 6) and the two drive families are not interchangeable at torque.
