DIN 564 Set Screws, Half Dog Point and Flat Cone Point
DIN 564 hexagon set screws with small hexagon, half dog point and flat cone point, M6 to M36: point forms z2/z5, head geometry and the commercial length ladder to 200 mm.
Last updated: 2026-11
Specifications
DIN 564 is the twin-point companion to DIN 561: one screw geometry, two points — the half dog z2 (nom=min 18 at M36) that half-locates in a groove or hole edge, and the flat (truncated) cone z5 (10 at M36) that centers without the full bite of a sharp cone. The collected 02/1995-edition table runs M6 to M36 with P, dp nom=max, e min, k nom and the small hexagon s nom=max (46 at M36), plus the commercial length ladder 12 to 200 mm with its mass table. The half dog is the maintenance-friendly point: it slides into a slot for quick positioning of interchangeable parts (changeover tooling, shaft collars adjusted in service), while the flat cone suits soft shafts where a sharp point would mushroom. Both points come on the same head and thread, so the choice is a point-ordering decision, not a redesign.
| Standard / scope | DIN 564 hexagon set screws, small hexagon, half dog point and flat cone point — M6 to M36, edition 02/1995 (supersedes 02/1985) |
|---|---|
| Point forms | Half dog z2 nom=min per size (18 at M36); flat cone z5 (10 at M36) — order the point form explicitly, both exist under the standard |
| Thread / head | P, dp nom=max, k nom per size; small hexagon s nom=max 46 / e min 51.28 at M36 |
| Commercial lengths l | Ladder 12 to 200 mm across M6–M36; approximate mass per 1000 pcs (ρ=7,85 kg/dm³) tabulated |
| Not tabulated | Property class (45H-type), finish, point hardness — per RFQ |
Materials
- Same discipline as the DIN 561 series: hardened class 45H steel with hardened point as default, zinc or black finish, A2/A4 stainless where corrosion rules. Say which point form the order is for — z2 or z5 — because the two share a drawing number otherwise; and for soft or aluminum shafts ask for the flat cone z5, whose truncated tip spreads the load instead of digging
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 564 Set Screws, Half Dog Point and Flat Cone Point) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the practical difference between the half dog (z2) and flat cone (z5) points?
The half dog is a locating point: a cylindrical tip of diameter z2 that engages a groove, slot or hole edge and positively stops rotation — the part can be backed off and re-engaged in the same place every time, which is why it owns changeover fixtures. The flat cone is a centering point: its truncated tip finds a dimple and centers the part under clamp load without the deep penetration of a sharp cone, kinder to soft shafts and to parts that will be removed. If the joint needs positive indexing, order z2 and machine the groove; if it needs repeatable clamping on a finished surface, z5 and a light center drill.
How does DIN 564 relate to the larger DIN 561 series?
They share the small-hexagon head system and the same 1995 edition family, but the size ranges differ — DIN 561 (registered separately) runs dog points up to M56 with commercial lengths to 300 mm, while DIN 564 covers the twin-point forms M6 to M36 to 200 mm. In practice: single-purpose permanent location at large size goes 561 full dog; anything needing the half dog or the flat cone comes from 564. Head wrench sizes differ between the standards at the same thread, so check the s column against your wrench stock — the small-hex system is not the standard hex series.
