Type PT-Alternative Pan Phillips Thread Forming Screws
Type PT-alternative thread forming screws for thermoplastics: a spaced 30° thread that forms its own path in plastic without chips or pre-tapped holes, under a pan head with Phillips drive. The collected spec sheet tables M1.6 to M5 with thread, head and recess dimensions plus hardness build.

Specifications
Thermoplastics need a different forming thread from metal: the PT-alternative profile uses a spaced, wider thread with a sharper 30° angle and a reduced core diameter between thread rows, so displaced plastic has somewhere to flow as the screw forms its path. The collected spec sheet credits the profile with reducing outward material expansion, raising load carry and resisting vibration loosening — the failure modes that matter when plastic creeps under a metal screw. The pan head tables run M1.6 to M5 with a Phillips recess. Materials follow the sheet: case-hardened C1022 steel through M3, through-hardened from M3.5, core hardness HV 270–390, with A2 stainless available. Type PT is a registered EJOT trademark; the sheets and this page describe the PT-alternative design. For a six-lobe drive in the same thread, see the PT-alternative pan TORX page.

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (Type PT-Alternative Pan Phillips Thread Forming Screws) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What does the 30° thread angle do in plastic?
The collected sheet explains the mechanism: the sharp, wide spaced thread reduces the outward expansion of the displaced material, and the recessed thread root gives the plastic room to flow between threads. That combination raises the load the joint can carry and keeps it there under vibration — the usual failure path for coarse machine screws pressed into thermoplastics is creep back-out, which the formed profile resists.
Why is the external thread diameter larger than the nominal size?
The PT-alternative thread runs a spaced profile: the tables show the external diameter above nominal (M2.2 measures 2.34 mm max, M3 3.14 mm, M5 5.00 mm) with a reduced core between rows. The larger crests bite the plastic, the spaced root leaves flow volume. Size the mating boss from the table's core and major diameters, not from metric nominal — that is the common design slip with plastic-forming threads.
What is the MOQ and lead time for these thread forming screws?
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
What should an RFQ for these thread forming screws state?
State the standard designation (for example DIN 7500 CE or DIN 7500 ME), the head form and drive, thread size and pitch, length, material and grade (case-hardened steel or A2/A4 stainless), finish, pilot-hole or sheet thickness if you need a hole-size recommendation, required certificates such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1, and quantity per size — plus destination country.
