DIN 906 Hexagon Socket Pipe Plugs (Taper Thread)
DIN 906 pipe plugs with hexagon socket and taper thread, M8 to M60 with R pipe-thread alternatives — the flush metal-to-metal seal plug for closed ports in hydraulic, pneumatic and machine housings — with the full collected table: plug length, socket width and engagement depth per size.

Specifications
DIN 906 is the classic port-sealing plug: a short plug with a hexagon socket in its face and a taper thread that seals metal-to-metal into a tapped port, leaving nothing protruding to catch and no gasket to age. The taper is the seal — the plug's tapered thread wedges into the matching tapped hole so the sealing pressure rises with tightening torque — which is why this plug dominates hydraulic manifolds, pump housings, gearboxes and any casting with machined R-thread ports where a soft seal would limit temperature or chemical resistance. The collected table runs an unusually wide range, M8 to M60 in parallel rows, and for each size tabulates: the coarse or fine pitch P (larger sizes carry both options in separate rows), the R pipe-thread designation where a tapered pipe-thread variant exists for the same plug length (R 1/8 at M10, R 1/4 at M12, through R 1 1/2 at M48), the plug length L as a Nominal (js16) with max/min limits — the dimension that sets how flush the plug sits — the hex socket width s as Nominal (D12) with max/min limits, the socket engagement depth t minimum, and the weight per 1000 units. Materials and finishes are not printed by the collected specification and follow the drawing callout.

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 906 Hexagon Socket Pipe Plugs (Taper Thread)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Taper thread (DIN 906) or cylindrical thread with sealing washer (DIN 908)?
The seal mechanism decides. DIN 906's taper thread seals by wedging metal into the tapped port — no consumables, highest temperature and chemical tolerance, but the port itself must be machined for taper thread and repeated re-installation wears the interference. DIN 908 uses a cylindrical thread with a sealing washer under its head: it seats against a flat machined face, tolerates repeated removal without port wear, and controls the seal through the washer choice instead of the thread fit. Compare the DIN 908 page on this site for the cylindrical variant — its collected table covers M10 to M64 with the washer-seat geometry. Practically: cast hydraulic ports threaded for R taper take DIN 906; flat-faced pump and gearbox ports take DIN 908; the two are not interchangeable on the same machined port.
Why are there both coarse and fine pitch rows for the larger metric sizes?
The collected table prints coarse and fine pitch options for the same plug body from the mid sizes upward (for example M36 with P 1.5 coarse and P 2 fine). Fine pitch is the common choice on thin-wall housings and hydraulic ports: a finer thread gives more turns of engagement in the same depth, better resistance to loosening under vibration, and finer torque control for the tapered interference that does the sealing. The plug length L, socket width s and depth t stay the same across the thread options, so the port drawing — not the plug — is what fixes which pitch is ordered. State the pitch explicitly at quotation whenever the port is tapped to fine pitch.
What is the MOQ and lead time for these screws?
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
