DIN 965 Cross Recessed Countersunk Machine Screws
Cross recessed countersunk flat head machine screws per DIN 965 — current norm DIN EN ISO 7046-1/7046-2 — M1.6 to M10 in steel class 4.8 or A2/A4 stainless, thread 6g. The flush-head screw that takes a Phillips driver: the default countersunk machine screw of volume assembly.

Specifications
Where DIN 963 keeps the single slot, DIN 965 puts a cross recess in the same 90° countersunk head — the flush seat stays, and the driver gains centring, so powered drivers can run the screw without cam-out at production speeds. The collected standard table runs M1.6 through M10 in steel class 4.8, A2 or A4 stainless, thread tolerance 6g. At M4 the head seats at 7.5 mm maximum diameter (7.14 mm minimum) with a 2.2 mm head height, a No. 2 cross recess (Type H depth ≈4.4 mm) and a minimum thread length of 22 mm — longer screws are partially threaded, shorter ones fully. DIN 965's current norm is DIN EN ISO 7046 (parts 1 and 2 by property class). It is the natural partner to the DIN 963 slot form when the assembly line or the repair bench uses cross-recess tooling; see that page for the slotted route.

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 965 Cross Recessed Countersunk Machine Screws) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
DIN 965 or DIN 963 — same head, which drive should I pick?
The heads are dimensionally interchangeable — both seat in the same 90° countersink, and the collected tables give the M4 countersunk head the same 7.5 mm diameter and 2.2 mm height. What differs is the drive and the line it buys you: the DIN 965 cross recess centres the driver and resists cam-out under a powered screwdriver, which is why volume assembly specifies it; the DIN 963 slot is serviceable with any flat blade and remains the traditional callout in instruments, terminals and restoration. Order the drive your tooling and drawing use — changing later costs only the driver, not the countersink.
Why does the table list ISO 7046 in two parts?
The collected DIN 965 page names DIN EN ISO 7046-1 and 7046-2 as its current norms. The two parts split the same countersunk head geometry by property class — one part for the 4.8-class steel screws the DIN table carries, the other for the stainless and non-ferrous grades. For procurement the practical rule is unchanged: order the DIN 965 designation your documentation prints and state the property class or stainless grade explicitly, and the part covers either part of the ISO standard.
What is the MOQ and lead time for these machine screws?
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
What should an RFQ for these machine screws state?
State the standard designation (for example DIN 965, DIN 964, DIN 966 — or the ISO designation your drawing prints, such as ISO 7046, ISO 2010 or ISO 7047), thread size and pitch, length and head dimension, strength class or material (such as 4.8, A2-70, A4-80 or brass), finish (black oxide, zinc plated, or plain), required certificates such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1, and quantity per size — plus destination country.
