Legacy BS 3692 / BS 4320 Hexagon Bolts, Nuts and Washers
Legacy BS 3692 hexagon bolt and nut limits of size (coarse and fine threads, M3 - M36, decimal-comma notation as printed) with BS 4320 normal and large plain-washer series — the pre-ISO British tabulation still referenced on legacy drawings, carried verbatim with its max-min limit pairs.

Specifications
Legacy British drawings still call out BS 3692 hexagon bolts and BS 4320 washers, and their limits differ in the details from the current ISO hexagon line — enough to matter when a legacy fastener must mate with modern tooling. The collected page tabulates, in its own decimal-comma notation: the bolt coarse limits (major d max-min as one cell, e.g. M12 "11,966 - 11,701"; minor d3; pitch diameter d2; head thickness Zb; A/F max-min; A/C across corners), the same ladder for fine threads (M6x0,75 through M36x3,00), the nut tables (major D nominal, minor D1 max-min, nut thickness Zn), and the two BS 4320 washer series (normal M3 - M36 and large M5 - M48, internal/external diameter and thickness max-min pairs, with a Thin column on the normal series). Two carried-verbatim quirks to note when reading: the M36 rows print "36,00" (two decimals against the three-decimal column pattern) and the A/C column drops to one decimal at M30/M36 ("53,1", "63,5") — all flagged under the tables, not normalized. Compare against the current ISO hexagon reference in the bolts family when a drawing permits either standard; where they diverge (the BS washer OD ladder runs slightly larger than ISO at some sizes), the drawing's callout governs. Strength grades and finish are not tabulated — per RFQ.

Materials
- BS 3692 hardware on legacy drawings is typically carbon steel to the old BS strength markings or stainless where the environment demands; the current supply line manufactures to the ISO-equivalent geometry under the BS designation on request. When you RFQ a legacy callout, give the drawing reference and the environment — we quote the current-manufacture equivalent and flag any geometry divergence from the limits on this table
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (Legacy BS 3692 / BS 4320 Hexagon Bolts, Nuts and Washers) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Is a BS 3692 bolt interchangeable with its current ISO equivalent?
Largely yes on the wrench-facing geometry — the A/F ladder (5,50 at M3 through 55,00 at M36) matches the ISO wrench series, and the major/pitch diameter limits sit in the same tolerance system. The differences live at the edges: head heights and corner (A/C) values have small divergences from the current ISO hexagon tabulation, and BS 4320 washer ODs run differently from ISO 7089 at some sizes — enough that a mixed legacy/modern assembly should be checked against both ladders, not assumed. Practically: if the drawing names BS 3692, quote against the BS limits on this table and note the current-manufacture basis on the RFQ response; if the drawing permits "or equivalent", the ISO tabulation in the bolts family is the tighter current reference. Where the two standards disagree on a limit that matters to your joint (a counterbore, a clearance hole), the drawing callout governs — not either table.
