DIN 84 Slotted Cheese Head Screws
DIN 84 slotted cheese head machine screws M1 to M10 — the classic cylindrical-head machine screw and the slotted counterpart of DIN 7985 — with the full collected 14-size table: thread pitch, head and shank tolerances, slot width and depth, thread runout, and the per-size thread length b ladder.

Specifications
DIN 84 is the machine screw that predates the cross-recess era and never left the catalogs: a cylindrical cheese head with a plain slot, screwed into tapped holes or nuts across the full small-screw range from M1 to M10. Its lasting advantage is the same as DIN 97 in the wood-screw line — a slot tolerates dirt, paint and a worn hand driver, and the flat cylindrical head gives more slot wall than any shallow recess, so it survives maintenance disassembly. The head sits lower than a pan head of the same diameter, which matters inside housings and instrument assemblies. The collected table covers all fourteen sizes of the series — M1, M1.2, M1.4, M1.6, (M1.8), M2, M2.5, M3, (M3.5), M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 — with pitch P, thread runout a max, head diameter d k max (= nominal)/min, head height k max/min, slot width n nominal/max/min, fillet radius r min, slot depth t min, and the thread runout x max that matters when the screw is driven close to a shoulder. The thread length b column is tabulated per size from 15 mm at M1.6 to 40 mm at M10; at M1–M1.4 the source prints a footnote instead — thread to the head only — reproduced here rather than interpolated. For the cross-recessed pan-head counterpart in the same duty, see the DIN 7985 page on this site.
| Standard | DIN 84 — slotted cheese head screws (machine screw thread) |
|---|---|
| Series | M1, M1.2, M1.4, M1.6, (M1.8), M2, M2.5, M3, (M3.5), M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 — parenthesized sizes are non-preferred |
| Tabulated geometry | Per size: pitch P, thread runout a max, head dia d k max (= nominal)/min, head height k max/min, slot width n nominal/max/min, fillet r min, slot depth t min, thread runout x max |
| Thread length b | Tabulated M1.6–M10: 15–40 mm; at M1–M1.4 the source prints the footnote "only with thread up to the head" instead of a value (reproduced verbatim) |
| Family note | Slotted counterpart of the cross-recessed pan head DIN 7985; same machine-screw duty |
| Materials / strength | Not tabulated by the collected specification — per RFQ (property class and stainless grade per drawing callout) |

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 84 Slotted Cheese Head Screws) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Why still specify a slotted cheese head today?
Serviceability and head height. A slot cannot strip the way a worn cross-recess can, it takes a flat-blade driver available anywhere, and it tolerates the paint and debris that blind a Phillips socket — which is why DIN 84 persists in instruments, terminals and maintained assemblies. The flat cylindrical head is also lower than a pan head at the same thread, visible in the k rows of the table against the DIN 7985 page. The cost is power-driving: a slot cam-outs under a rifle-held drill, so production lines choose the recessed lines.
What should an RFQ for DIN 84 screws state?
The designation, thread size and length (note the b thread-length column on this page — at the three smallest sizes thread runs to the head only, per the source footnote), material and strength class or stainless grade, finish, and quantity per size. Head and slot tolerances are in the table; commercial terms follow the quotation.
What is the MOQ and lead time for these screws?
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
