DIN 7513 Slotted Oval Head Thread Cutting Screws (Form GE)
Slotted oval head thread cutting screws per DIN 7513 Form GE, 2016 edition — M2.5 to M8 in the collected table, with cutting flutes that machine the mating thread and per-size recommended hole sizes. The raised-countersunk thread-cutting screw driven by a flat blade.

Specifications
The Form GE thread cutting screw combines a raised countersunk (oval) head with a thread that machines its own mating thread as it is driven: cutting flutes extend from the point, so the screw cuts a clean thread in the hole instead of forming it by displacement — the choice for harder or thicker base materials where a thread-forming screw would need too much drive torque. The collected standards table runs M2.5 through M8 with pitch, head diameter dk (maximum and minimum), head height k, raised face f, slot width n (maximum and minimum), slot depth t (maximum and minimum) and — a column most tables omit — the recommended hole size for each thread, minimum (H11) and maximum, which sizes the prepared hole the cutting flutes need. At M5 the head measures 9.3 mm across (8.94 mm minimum) at 2.7 mm high with a 1.51 mm slot; the recommended hole is 4.5–4.575 mm. Because the screw cuts rather than forms, the hole size is part of the joint design: undersize and the flutes stall or the screw breaks, oversize and the thread engagement is short. The slotted drive is the traditional callout for hand assembly and service work; its cross recessed counterpart is DIN 7516.

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (DIN 7513 Slotted Oval Head Thread Cutting Screws (Form GE)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Thread cutting (DIN 7513) or thread forming — when does the cutting flute pay off?
When the base material cannot take the drive torque a forming screw needs. Forming screws displace material and require higher torque, which limits them to softer or thinner bases; a cutting screw machines its thread through the flutes, so it drives at lower torque into harder or thicker material with less risk of breaking the screw or deforming the part. The trade is a chip and a prepared hole: the collected table sizes that hole per thread (H11 minimum to the stated maximum), and the joint should anticipate the cutting chips being cleared. For repeated disassembly the cut thread re-engages cleanly on the same screw size.
Why is the recommended hole size printed on the page?
Because with a cutting screw the hole is half the fastening system. The collected DIN 7513 table lists a minimum (nominal, H11 tolerance) and a maximum hole diameter for every thread from M2.5 to M8 — for example 4.5 to 4.575 mm at M5. Inside that window the flutes cut a full thread with correct engagement; below it the screw stalls or fractures, above it the thread is shallow. State the base material and thickness on the RFQ so the hole recommendation is confirmed against the actual joint.
What is the MOQ and lead time for these thread cutting screws?
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
What should an RFQ for thread cutting screws state?
State the standard designation and form letter (for example DIN 7513 GE or DIN 7516 DE), thread size and pitch, length, material and finish, the base-material thickness and hardness the screw must cut into, required certificates such as a mill test report per EN 10204 3.1, and quantity per size — plus destination country.
