Specifications

The flat-point set screw ends in a shallow cone truncated to a flat circular face of diameter d p, so it presses on the mating surface instead of digging into it. That is the point style to choose whenever the screw will be re-adjusted, whenever it bears against a hardened or finished surface a cup would scar, or whenever it clamps a second part against a shaft rather than biting the shaft itself — spacer collars, adjustable stops, guide bushings, set-and-reset tooling details. The trade is holding power: without a biting edge the screw relies on friction alone, so it wants a harder tightening torque and, in vibrating service, a thread locker. The collected B18.3 table runs 24 sizes from #0 to 2 in and tabulates per size: screw diameter with thread length, threads per inch across UNC, UNF and (from 1/4 in) UNEF, the hex socket nominal size s, minimum socket depth t, and the flat point diameter d p with max/min limits — the number that decides how much bearing area the flat actually delivers. Cup, dog and cone point variants of the same series have their own pages on this site.

Tabulated geometry Per size: nominal diameter d with thread length, threads per inch by series (UNC / UNF / UNEF), socket nominal size s, socket depth t (min), flat point diameter d p (max / min)
At 1/4 UNC 20 / UNF 28 / UNEF 32; socket s 0.125 in; depth t min 0.125 in; flat d p 0.132 / 0.118 in
At 1/2 UNC 13 / UNF 20 / UNEF 28; socket s 0.25 in; depth t min 0.25 in; flat d p 0.291 / 0.270 in
At 1 UNC 8 / UNF 12 / UNEF 20; socket s 0.562 in; depth t min 0.562 in; flat d p 0.609 / 0.579 in
Materials / strength Not tabulated by the collected specification — per RFQ (hardness and finish per drawing callout; set screws are normally through-hardened)
Hex socket set screws, flat point (inch series) - threads, body diameter and point diameter (#0 - 1 1/2)All dimensions in inches. Labels follow the source grid: screw dia = basic screw diameter; UNC / UNF = threads per inch in the UNC / UNF series (a dash means the series does not cover the size); A max = maximum (basic) body diameter; C max / C min = maximum and minimum point diameter. The two columns carried in source order as C UNC / C UNF match the ASME B1.1 class 3A external major-diameter minima for the corresponding UNC / UNF pitch and are labeled accordingly. Values are carried verbatim, including leading-zero formatting. Socket sizes, key engagement and length ranges are not part of this grid.

  • Row 10 (1/4): the #10 UNC thread-limit cell prints .1825 where the ASME B1.1 class 3A minimum for 10-24 UNC is .1828 — carried as printed, not normalized; verify per RFQ against the governing thread standard.
  • Row 14 (1/2): the 1/2 size point-diameter minimum prints .207 while the published ASME B18.3 point-diameter minimum for 1/2 is .270 (the maximum .291 agrees) — carried as printed, not normalized; confirm per RFQ against the governing standard.
  • Row 18 (7/8): the 7/8 size prints 9 UNC threads per inch with thread-limit .8611, consistent with the 9UN series; the 1 in. and 12-thread sizes above follow the same UN-series pattern — carried as printed.

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.

Quotation

  • The fastener family (ANSI B18.3 Hex Socket Set Screws, Flat Point) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
  • Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
  • Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
  • Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.

Sample & supply

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.

Storage & shipping

Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Flat point or cup point — how should the choice be made?

Decide on two questions: will the screw ever be re-tightened, and what does it press against. The cup point bites a sharp ring into the shaft — maximum holding for a set-once joint, but it scars the surface and loses bite every time it is re-seated on the same mark. The flat point presses a defined circular face (d p) — no bite, but no damage either, which is why it is the choice for adjustable stops, parts that get repositioned, and any surface harder than the screw itself, where a cup would simply skip. If the joint sees vibration with a flat point, plan for a thread locker or a key, because the screw holds by friction alone. Compare the d p and d z columns at the same size and they are nearly identical — the geometry differs at the very tip, so the decision is service, not size.

What is the MOQ and lead time for these screws?

Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces per item. Stocked sizes ship in 3–7 days; non-stock diameters, lengths or finishes are quoted with a confirmed schedule. Common sizes in this designation are widely stocked — confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
