ASME B1.13M Metric Internal Threads — 6H Limiting Dimensions (M1.6 – M200)
ASME B1.13M metric screw thread (M profile) internal limiting dimensions at tolerance class 6H — minor, pitch and major diameter min/max per thread designation from M1.6 to M200, including fine and constant-pitch variants, transcribed row-for-row from the collected chart.
Last updated: 2026-11
Specifications
This is the tapped-hole half of the M-profile system: the internal (nut) thread limits at class 6H, the commercial default that every standard metric bolt is designed to enter. The collected chart runs 81 designation/pitch rows from M1.6 x 0.35 to M200 x 3 — coarse, fine and constant-pitch variants per size as printed (M12 at 1.75/1.5/1.25/1.0, M10 at 1.5/1.25/1.0/0.75 …). Each row carries D1 minor min/max, D2 pitch min/max, and D major min/max — reading M10 x 1.5 - 6H: D1 8.376/8.676, D2 9.026/9.206, D 10.000/10.397, the numbers a thread-plug gage set enforces on a tapped hole. Two of the chart's own notes matter in practice. The D max column "is used in tool design and is not normally specified on drawings" (source Note 1) — the working limits are D1 and D2. And 6H positions all limits at or above basic: the internal side carries no allowance, which is what gives the external 6g class its coating headroom — the commercial 6g x 6H pair. Where a tapped hole receives coated bolts, oversize (6H toleranced for thick-film galvanizing, tapped-after-coating with Helicoil-style inserts) is a design decision beyond this chart — per RFQ, as are classes other than 6H and the external limits (see the B1.13M external page).
| Standard | ASME B1.13M — metric screw threads, M profile, internal thread limiting dimensions; interchangeable with ISO 68-1 basic profile and ISO 965-1 tolerance practice (per source) |

Materials
- Tapped-hole material, insert provisions and coating strategy specified per RFQ — 6H is the bare default; thick-film galvanizing pairs may need oversize or insert provisions named at quotation
Ordering & documentation
Documents
Shipments are backed by Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Dimensional Report, Salt Spray Test Report on request, with full batch traceability from raw material to finished product. Quality management follows the owner-confirmed compliance list: ISO 9001:2015, RoHS, REACH. Exact document sets are confirmed on the order.
Quotation
- The fastener family (ASME B1.13M Metric Internal Threads — 6H Limiting Dimensions (M1.6 – M200)) plus the standard designation from your drawing — DIN / ISO / JIS / ASTM / ANSI, or a drawing for custom parts.
- Size (diameter and length), thread type (metric or inch), property class or grade, and coating or finish.
- Quantity per size and your target delivery date.
- Destination country, and any required documents (for example a mill test certificate) so the quote includes them.
Sample & supply
Minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items run 3–7 days. Quantities or variants outside the standard range are confirmed at quotation.
Storage & shipping
Parts are packed for export and shipped factory-direct to buyers in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Store fasteners dry and protected until installation, and keep coated parts in their packaging until use; specific packing and preservation requirements can be stated on the order and confirmed at quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What does the 6H class mean for a tapped hole, and when does a standard tapped hole fail to accept a coated bolt?
6H means the hole's thread limits sit at or above the basic profile — the collected chart's M10 x 1.5 row shows D2 from 9.026 to 9.206 mm against the 6g bolt's pitch band below basic — so a bare commercial bolt threads in with flank clearance to spare. That spare is precisely the external 6g allowance, and it is sized for normal coatings: zinc plating, thin-film finishes. Where it runs out is thick-film galvanizing and heavy thermal-diffusion coatings, whose build on the bolt flank can exceed what the 6g x 6H pair budgets — the symptom is bolts that start but will not torque, or that gage loose after tapping tolerance and coating stack unfavorably. The fixes are engineering choices, not more torque: a tapped-oversize class with extra pitch-diameter allowance (provisioned for the coating spec), tapping the hole after coating the mating bolt, or a wire insert (Helicoil-style) tapped oversize and threaded after — all three keep the joint sound and are named on the drawing, per RFQ with the coating specified. For inspection, the chart's D1/D2 limits are what a 6H thread-plug set checks; the D max column is tooling information (source Note 1), not a drawing dimension. Pair this page with the B1.13M external limits when quoting mating hardware.
What is the MOQ and lead time for threaded parts on this standard?
The minimum order quantity is 10,000 pieces. Stock items ship in 3–7 days; non-stock items are confirmed at quotation. Common thread sizes on this standard are widely stocked; confirm the exact schedule against quantity and size mix at quotation.
